March 13th, 2026 10:01 AM by Sam Kader NMLS# 130505

Your credit report and credit score play an important role in your financial life. They can affect your ability to qualify for a mortgage, credit card, apartment, or other types of financing.

Checking your credit regularly helps you catch errors early and prepare for important financial decisions.

Checking your credit regularly helps make sure the information is accurate and allows you to catch possible problems early.

Good news: Checking your own credit report does NOT affect your credit score.

Step 1: Visit the Official Website

You can obtain your free credit reports from the three major credit reporting agencies:

  • Equifax
  • Experian
  • TransUnion

The official website to request your reports is:

www.AnnualCreditReport.com

Consumers can obtain their credit reports for free through the official website authorized by federal law: AnnualCreditReport.com. Pacific Coast Financial LLC does not provide credit reports and is not affiliated with the credit reporting agencies. You can check your credit reports online for free and as often as once per week from each credit bureau.

Step 2: Fill Out the Request Form

After visiting the website, click the button that says “Request your free credit reports.”

  • Your full name
  • Your Social Security number
  • Your date of birth
  • Your current address

Step 3: Choose Your Credit Reports

You will have the option to request reports from:

  • Equifax
  • Experian
  • TransUnion

Many people choose to review all three reports since each credit bureau may contain slightly different information.

Step 4: Verify Your Identity

Before your credit report is displayed, the system may ask several security questions to confirm your identity.

  • Previous addresses
  • Loans or credit accounts you have had
  • Vehicles or financial accounts connected to you

Step 5: Review Your Credit Report Carefully

  • Look for accounts you do not recognize
  • Check for incorrect balances
  • Confirm your address history is accurate
  • Review any late payments listed

If possible, download or print your report so you can review it later.

How to Check Your Credit Score

Your free credit report usually does not include your credit score. However, you can view your credit score using several free services.
